Think this bean stew sounds good for our family. Since life without "Neon" the past 5 months I am constantly looking for ways to prepare "good" food. You inspire me! Now I need good whole grain pizza crust. Any ideas?

Comment on When life gives you lemons, make salad

I have never baked beets.
Deb >>> Although Monsanto has restarted development, at this point they are not selling GMO Wheat. But you got to wonder just how much Round-up (or its by-products) are getting into our bodies through GMO Corn and Soybeans.

Comment on An Honest Relationship with Honest Food

The numbers on gluten intolerance are surprising. A story in the WSJ a couple of weeks ago put it at 1 in 10. The scary thing is they don't know why this has become more common.

Comment on An Honest Relationship with Honest Food

Interesting enough Gluten is now the number one food sensitivity in the US affecting up to 1 out of every 3 people. I was amazed how much better I felt and how several chronic health issues improved and went away when I stopped eating gluten. My daughter swears her brain chemistry changed and not only is she not having stomach problems like chronic nausea, she says her mind is much clearer and she is sleeping better. My niece unfortunately is suffering from anorexia and depression, her doctor put her on a gluten free diet. Research supports a strong link between depression and gluten intolerance. I am not saying gluten is the root of all evil, and I am not obsessive about it, I think its an important consideration for a healthy diet. It also gives you a chance to experiment with different grains and by reducing and possibly limiting gluten you might just find you feel a little better.

Comment on New food guidelines

Deb-what recipies do you have for artichokes. My plant blew over and I had to pick all 7 of them, from full size to 4 baby ones

>>> OK... Almost any vegetable can be done this way. Whenever I spluge and get artichokes, I just trim top and bottoms, rub with lemon, and steam in about an inch of water. Then eat with an aioli mayonnaise (about 1/2 and 1/2 mayonnaise and yorgurt, plus a squirt of lemon juice and a bit of minced garlic).

Comment on 4th Anniversary!

we'll give it a try.
