Happy New Year

Today is the day we celebrate Ethan and Mica’s birthday, since we don’t have a clue when they were actually born.  Mica (the cat) came from the SPCA in Auburn.  She was about a year old, and was put up for adoption (along with her  litter of kittens) by a lady who had 20 cats.  She is now about 12 years old, and has taught me a lot about cats (between Mica and 14 years at Intel, I really understand the term “herding cats”).  Our dog, Ethan came from AZ Rescue here in Phoenix.  We have had him about 3 years now, and our guess is that he is 6 or 7 years old.  He was picked up as a stray, rescued from the pound.  Now he is my walking buddy (every morning we do a couple of miles).

At this time of year when we hoping for World Peace, I am thankful for the relative peace between the dog and cat, and hope that 2008 is the year that I finally get that picture of both of them in front of the Christmas tree.

Peace: A Buddhist friend sent me the following. It does not mean to be in a place where there is no noise, trouble or hard work. It means to be in the midst of those things and still be calm in your heart. My Words: Hard to remember, hard to do; but, a significant goal. Happy New Year to all.

Your two fur-friends are closer than my 2 cats usually get! I get mighty discouraged when I remember the music with words, "...give peace a chance.." and such. I do think that regardless of each of our beliefs about faith/religion etc, that a thread of good karma and kindness would go a long way.

Ethan seems to be saying, why doesn't she like me, I'm a nice dog.
