Old School by Tobias Wolff

Old School is a book you either love or hate, based both on the Pageturners reviews and Amazon reviews.  The book is set in 1960, at a boys prep school on the east coast, where they read and love Faulkner, Frost, Hemingway, etc.  To say the least, there was nothing in the book I could relate to, and the writing (which did not include any quote marks, except for the title of books) put me to sleep… one Amazon reviewer summed it up:  “It drags on like a rusty knife”.  On top of that, the last quarter of the book is completely disconnected from the rest.   So you know what camp I fall into.   So here’s the up side:  Of the many people in book group really loved this book, it seems they all have in common a rich background in literature, so maybe I need to go back and start reading the books they did in high school and college.  Also, if I ever have trouble sleeping, I know just the book to help!
