Sabbatical

Today is the 1st day of my 8 week sabbatical.  I’m at this odd point of having the highest ambitions of what I think I will do and (hopefully) the lowest energy level after a couple of grueling weeks at work.  There was an article yesterday in the WSJ about several (mostly famous) people, and what they had wanted to accomplish over the summer based on interviews in June and what they actually accomplished.  Their lists included reading certain books, projects around the house, lowering golf handicap’s, etc.  My list includes these items, and much more… doing some fabulous work in the studio, do more sketching, get beyond what I consider “beginner” yoga-status, travel, blog most days, grilling classes for my father-in-law, try more new recipes.  I will be happy if I do 30% of this -- about the accomplishment rate in WSJ article.  Of course, the real accomplishment would be to figure out what to do when I grow up... or at least do next.

What did you think of this article?

I guess I should be happy for you that you get a sabbatical but in the long run I guess I'm just jealous.. While many high tech companies have them, mine does not... Just for that, I'm going to sneak in a little hunting before work tomorrow... Dove for dinner tomorrow night.
So we are having a party in couple weeks for a friend of Sharon's who is turning 40. Her favorite dish is Beef Stroganoff. I made two experimental batches today from two different recipes. One came out great, the other... well, first thing, it was purple. Bad sign.. Maybe I put too much wine in it but butter, beef broth, red wine and sour creme make purple, no matter how you very the quantities. At least I have a recipe now, just need to figure out how to make it for 50 people... Have fun on the sabbatical.

I looked at several stroganoff recipes, and none of them called for red wine... but you might do it and call it Barney Stroganoff! I did see one that called for a bit of cognac...
