Buddy Guy
Last night we made another trek to the Mesa Arts Center, and saw Buddy Guy. I've been surprised at how many people have asked Buddy Who? He is one of the blues greats, part of the generation that was a precursor to rock and roll, but steadily seeing their numbers drop. Buddy Guy is 71... and still plays a mean guitar!
Mesa Arts is a great venue, they had a band playing out front before the concert. We found a seat up on a large patio above the action, and had our first look at the place in the daylight. The have a very cool facade on the building which are tiles which are suspended somehow, and kind of ripple with the wind.
We had Row A seats -- which is really the 4th row (I think the first 3 rows are sitting on the orchestra pit), so we could really see the action. The band was a hoot, especially the base player (dressed in a plaid short sleeved button down shirt -- kind of looked like he could be an engineer) and the guitar player (in baggy pants, football jersey, and otherwise like a rapper). Buddy himself is a character, and hard to believe that yes, he is of my parents age (who swear that they grew up on big band music). He spent one tune going through the entire audience, balconies and all, playing the guitar (which also says something about wireless technology!).
Of course, I don't know how I got hooked on the blues, but I love to listen to it when doing pots!
