Snow Flower and the Secret Fan

Hi Pageturners -- Just finished Snow Flower and the Secret Fan by Lisa See.  I wasn't sure I would get through this, it was clear there would be worse to come to Snow Flower after foot binding.  But I did.   Wonderful writing, great perspective on meeting cultural expectations... and being selfish.  And I'm really, really glad I didn't live in China in the 19th century.

I bought the book but haven't read it as yet. I love books about China even though the contents are sometimes violent and cruel. A friend of mine was teaching English in China last summer and will so so again this summer. She suggested "The Good Women of China" by Xinran and "River Town" by Peter Hessler a National Geographic writer.
